Teddy Bear Grilled Cheese, from Yum-Yum Bento Box

This classic sandwich bento box is packed with grilled-cheese teddy bears, apple bunnies, and other simple childhood favorites. Kids will love assembling the ants on a log at lunchtime.

Teddy Bear Grilled Cheese
❥ 2 pats butter ❥ 2 slices bread ❥ 2 slices cheddar cheese, 1 slice white cheese ❥ 1 piece nori ❥ 1 small piece of ham

1. Melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Cut crusts off bread. Place bread into the pan and grill until golden brown, flipping once.

2. Sandwich one slice of cheese between the warm, toasty bread. Set aside to cool. Cut sandwich in half and put it into the bento box, stacking the halves to fit.

3. Cut teddy bears from the other slice of cheese and add ovals cut out of white (or cheddar) cheese to make teddy bear faces. Decorate the sandwich, adding nori smiley faces and tiny ham-shape hearts.

Ants on a Log
❥ 2 celery stalks, cut into sticks ❥ peanut butter ❥ raisins
1. Arrange celery sticks in the bento box. Spoon peanut butter into a food cup. Use individually boxed raisins or put a few into a mini food cup.

How to Make an Apple Bunny
Like checkered apples, apple bunnies are a cute bento tradition. They can be made in about 5 minutes with nothing but a fresh apple and a good paring knife.

1. Quarter an apple with a paring knife. Take one slice, remove the core, and trim one end square and one end pointy.
2. Starting at the square end, slide the knife under the apple skin, peeling it about halfway.
3. Cut out a triangle of the apple skin to make the V shape. Curl up the bunnies’ ears between your thumb and the knife.
4. Briefly soak your Apple Bunny in iced lemon water: cold water will help curl the ears, and lemon will preserve color.
