The quiet life—and death—of Nicholas Hughes.
Those who follow poetry likely know about the recent suicide of Nicholas Hughes, son of Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath. I don’t have very much to add beyond what’s mentioned in the succinct NYTimes article.
While a student at Smith, I did fawn over the Plath archive stored in the Mortimer Rare Book Room (a stunning resource, by the by). I once had a lovely facsimile of her manuscript called “Stings,” which the college published years ago and I seem to have misplaced . . . Anyway, it is a treasure that, like a good friend, I am sorry to have lost.
