Love That Bob

Chinatown producer Robert Evans continued to amuse Polanski decades after the diminutive director had fled the United States. One day in 2001, Polanski telephoned Evans from Paris to tell him he had just been in a terrible car accident that totaled his Mercedes. Apparently he had been driving down the Champs Élysées listening to the audiobook version of Evans’ tell-all memoir The Kid Stays in the Picture and started laughing so hard he swerved off the road and crashed into a tree.
