Chestnuts aren’t the only things that taste great when roasted on an open fire. Any largish nuts-pecans, walnuts, pine nuts, and hazelnuts-will do.

1. Simply wrap the nuts (still in their shells) in foil.
2. Bury them in coals (or in the hottest part of your fire).
3. Cooking times depend on the size of the nuts and the heat of your fire. Test-roast a few medium to large nuts for 5 to 10 minutes, and add or subtract time as needed on the next batch.
