Moles are called “moles” for a reason: They’re dirty and shifty and very good at operating below the surface. However, the following behavioral characteristics and habits may help you identify a potential mole in your midst:
* He or she is overly ambitious.
* They seek favor with superiors and seem more concerned with promoting themselves rather than the mission objective.
* He or she is overly interested in the work of others.
* When someone is more interested in what his or her neighbor is working on than the task that he or she has been assigned, notice should be taken. No one at CTU should have idle time during which he or she can look over someone else’s shoulder.
* He or she takes frequent bathroom breaks. One of the most private and loosely monitored areas of CTU is the bathroom, and it often serves as a private setting in which moles can conduct their business away from prying eyes and ears. Also, bathroom breaks are often used as an excuse to cover up attempts to gain access to areas of CTU headquarters that would otherwise be off limits to them or to sabotage infrastructure.
* He or she asks for clearance and access beyond his or her security level. At CTU, we are all team players. Everyone at every clearance level has an important job to do. Those-especially without the adequate experience-who repeatedly seek out ways to gain greater access should be watched carefully.
* Moles are often troublemakers. They will seek to exploit relationship conflicts between agents and even blackmail others for information or clearance privileges.
