A Note about Gauge
Gauge is important because it tells you how big (or small) to make your crochet craft. It indicates the number of stitches and rows per inch. Almost all the projects in this book have a gauge of 5 sc x 5 rows = 1″ x 1″, meaning that there will be 5 stitches and 5 rows per inch.

Special Techniques
Some of the patterns in this book call for techniques you may not find in standard crochet patterns. These are marked by a dagger (†) and are explained below.

Magic Ring
1. Make a loop with the stray end under the working end of the yarn.
2. With the hook, pull the working end from behind the stray end under and back up to the top. Ch 1 or otherwise start as you would any type of ring.
3. Continue around, working as usual with the sts worked directly over both cords.
4. Once you have worked the desired number of sts, hold work with one hand and pull the stray end taut with the other. Continue to pull the stray end until the ring is the desired size. Weave in the end to keep the ring from growing as piece is worked.
