Cleaning and the Aries Roommate

Although Aries roommates have the energy for it, they most often lack the motivation and inclination. Here a structured, unemotional approach works best. Draw up a weekly list of chores, even being specific to the day, so that they will know what is expected of them. Arguments can easily arise when they ignore such a list and give the invariable excuse that they will get to it later. Even worse, they may just disappear for a few days. Leaving their mess as it is and cleaning only your own space will not work since they are likely to ignore their own stuff anyway. Giving perks for their neatness will help, as will a system of small rewards and expressions of appreciation.

Cleaning and the Taurus Roommate

Taurus roommates are good at cleaning once they are motivated to do so. However, they are slow moving customers who can put up with disorder, particularly their own, as long as most. What really bothers them is your mess, which they will probably impatiently clean up before they do their own, or allow you to do so. Because Taurus roommates can submit to schedules when it comes to cleaning, it would be wise of you to post the cleaning schedule prominently. Expect that they will postpone such responsibilities, since they tend to neglect them for awhile and then finish them all off at once. Cleaning often puts them in a bad mood.

Cleaning and the Gemini Roommate

Geminis are capable of very thorough cleaning if they set their mind to it. However, their minds are usually elsewhere occupied. Sticklers for detail, Geminis will certainly not be blind to what needs cleaning up, but somehow registering this fact and immediately ignoring it go hand in hand. Their capacity to be blind to their own mess is legendary. Should you confront them with it, they may simply tell you that the way they keep their room is their business. Further, if you insist they clean up the common rooms they will probably infer, or outright state, that they are hardly ever home (which could be partially true) and that the mess was made by you. Guess who winds up doing the work?

Cleaning and the Cancer Roommate

Once they get started, Cancer roommates can be excellent cleaners. The only problem is motivating them to begin, since they are notorious procrastinators in this regard. They are quite capable of living amid disorder, even approaching the chaotic, and turning a blind eye to it. Often scheduling a party or visit will wake them up to the necessity of cleaning things up. Their work is usually efficient, and they have the stamina and concentration to hang in there and finish things once they put their minds to it. Another way to prepare them for cleaning day is to show some interest in the cleaning materials required and make sure they are added to the shopping list. Afterward, leave the materials in an obvious place where they can be seen.

Cleaning and the Leo Roommate

Cleaning is not usually high on Leo’s priority list. Your Leo roommate is capable of creating monumental messes, not out of inconsideration, but usually just unawareness. Thus, Leos could be living in something that, objectively viewed, could resemble a war zone, and they wouldn’t even know it. The problem is that they just get used to sleeping in an unmade bed or tripping over their towels. That said, they are usually careful enough to step around objects arranged on the floor rather than on them, creating navigable avenues of transit. However, getting them to pick things up may have to be left to the occasional empty Saturday afternoon during which you can finally get through to them on the subject.

Cleaning and the Virgo Roommate

Actually, despite their clean-crazy reputations, Virgos can be as messy as anyone else. But they will clean it up, and often in short order. This does not mean, however, that they will clean up your mess, too. Often a strict geographical dividing line clearly shows where they left off. They do not like nagging others to clean up; rather they will usually issue the cleaning command in short and not-so-sweet terms. The real strength of Virgo roommates cleaning-wise is that they have a place for everything and believe that everything should be in its place as much as possible when not in use.

Cleaning and the Libra Roommate

As a rule, Libras are quite tidy, if only because their aesthetic sense and desire to keep up appearances demand it. Libra roommates will also pitch in and help in cleaning projects that involve two or three people, but if they had their druthers, they would prefer to simply do their share of the cleaning alone. Their own rooms are most often kept tidy, but not spectacularly neat. Libra roommates are the ones most likely to sweep dirt under the rug (telling themselves, “It’s just for the time being.”). Great procrastinators, Libra roommates have a habit of putting off cleaning projects for days and even weeks at a time.

Cleaning and the Scorpio Roommate

Scorpios are not known for their interest in cleaning, although once they make up their minds to do it, they are quite capable workers in this area. Often they will agree to help clean up spaces that are common to both of you, but balk at any suggestion that they make their own rooms more presentable. For them, their rooms are their private lairs where you might never be invited, and they resent even having their space under your scrutiny. The sight of closed doors to their rooms is probably one that you will have to get used to, whether they are present or not.

Cleaning and the Sagittarius Roommate

Sagittarians are neither renowned for their cleaning skills nor their thirst to put things in order. Rather, they have their own peculiar ideas on straightening and can even proudly display their results, leaving you astounded at how little they have really accomplished in bringing order to the living situation. Sagittarius roommates’ ideas on bringing order are thus quite peculiar, but once they set their minds to cleaning up, they can do a good job. Catching them at the right moment to do this task can be a formidable challenge. Be forewarned-cleaning is not usually high on their list of priorities.

Cleaning and the Capricorn Roommate

Capricorn roommates can get pretty sloppy at times, but in between periods of chaos- particularly in their own rooms-they will draw up strict cleaning schedules for themselves and their roommates. Thus, the appearance of the dwelling is likely to fluctuate wildly between sloppy and orderly. Oddly, for all their boasting about practicality, Capricorn roommates can go way off track in pursuing their personal interests, being blind to how things look. You may have to do extra work in common living spaces to keep things in order, without getting any thanks from your Capricorn roommate, who may not even notice.

Cleaning and the Aquarius Roommate

Do not go down the road of cleaning up after them, since your task of dealing with the results of a perpetual whirlwind will be exhausting, endless, and only arouse your resentments. The best way to deal with this situation is to let them drown in their own mess while keeping your own room neat as a pin, hopefully as a good example. The main problem is keeping common rooms such as the kitchen, bathroom, or living room in order. Here you will invariably have to do most of the work, but when things get really disorderly, you will have to pin them down at that moment to get the work done and firmly refuse to accept any excuses or assurances of future involvement.

Cleaning and the Pisces Roommate

Pisces roommates get a lot of satisfaction through cleaning and keeping things tidy. Yet with even the best intentions, they are capable of accumulating and generating messes that must be seen to be believed. Their particular form of chaos usually involves simply dropping whatever is in their hands on the floor when finished with it. Consequently, you will not have much trouble finding them-you only need to follow their trail. Once Pisces roommates are rounded up and enlisted to be part of a cleaning team, you will find them excellent cleaners, with a real eye toward making things look beautiful.
